“An honest and ongoing exploration, the 55-minute performance is a whirlwind of storytelling, song, an interactive game show, a sex ed class and a dance party […] by the time they open the floor for discussion, anyone who’s ever had a period is itching to share their story” – Apt613
Let’s talk periods. PERIOD.
‘A Period Piece’ presents a wacky, honest, and musical unpacking of the relationship we have with our bodies and the things that come out of them.
Full of off-the-wall humour and down to earth truths, ‘A Period Piece’ is a show that is for everybody and every body. Through sketch comedy, honest and personal stories, and a whole lot of heart, creators/actors Lauren Welchner and Monica Bradford-Lea open the conversation about periods and the stigmas that come with them.
“That was way less uncomfortable than I thought it would be!” – Carmel Ketchabaw, 9 years old
SPICY DAY:
Described as “two local female performers who have a very strong and defined perspective” (New Ottawa Critics), and “side-splittingly funny” (Apt613), award-winning theatre company Spicy Day has been creating new, critically-acclaimed productions since 2016.
Spicy Day is committed to creating new, interactive work that sparks conversation and unites audiences in laughter, togetherness, and shared unique experience.
From their debut production In Waking Life, a partially-improvised comedy about two kooky psychic sisters, to The Brotherhood which tackles sexism within the guise of a magic show, to the honest and empowering A Period Piece, we love to find new and engaging ways to tell stories that need to be told.
“Spicy Day theatre company manages to take the audience on such an unexpected journey that is simultaneously fun and yet incredibly poignant.”– New Ottawa Critics
